The present invention is an antifoaming agent containing: (A) an organopolysiloxane that has a hydrolyzable group represented by formula (1) in at least one silicon atom of organopolysiloxane segments constituting the main chain, and contains siloxy units represented by formula (2) at an amount of at least 10 mol% of the total (where X is a C1-10 divalent hydrocarbon group and R are, independently of each other, a hydrogen atom or a C1-4 monovalent hydrocarbon group) (R1 is a C1-12 monovalent hydrocarbon group, and R2 is a C6-12 organic group that has an aryl group and that may contain an oxygen atom or a halogen atom); (B) a non-straight-chain organosilicon resin excluding the organopolysiloxane of component (A); and (C) a hydrophobic filler. An antifoaming agent that has an excellent foaming control performance during laundering (i.e., from washing to rinsing), that is inactive with respect to components in detergent compositions and is safe, and that is more stable in a variety of detergents, and a method for manufacturing the antifoaming agent, are thereby provided.
