ANTIOXIDANT, WHITENING AGENT AND SKIN PREPARATION FOR EXTERNAL USE CONTAINING THE SAME

It is intended to provide a highly safe antioxidant, a whitening agent and a skin preparation for external use containing the same. Namely, an antioxidant and a whitening agent containing, as the active ingredient, an extract of one or more basidiomycetes selected from among Pleurotus abalonus, Pholiota squarrosa, Onnia orientalis, Astraeus hygrometricus and Pleurotus nebrodensis. Because of having an excellent ability to capture free radical, these extracts are useful in inhibiting the oxidation of the skin and preventing and improving skin aging. Moreover, these extracts have a tyrosinase inhibitory effect and can inhibit melanogenesis. Since these basidiomycetous fungi are edible, the extracts thereof are highly safe and, therefore, appropriately usable in a skin preparation for external use.
