The present invention addresses the problem of: providing an antiviral aqueous overcoat composition capable of forming a coating film having an excellent appearance without dripping of a coating material even when the interior coating film is painted thereon with a roller, brush, pad, or spray; and providing an article having antiviral properties and an excellent appearance of the coating film. The solution to this problem is an antiviral aqueous overcoat composition containing a binder component, a copper compound, and water, wherein the binder component contains a polysaccharide, the copper compound contains at least one selected from the group consisting of a divalent cation of the copper compound, a divalent copper ion salt, and a divalent copper ion complex, and the total mass of solids with respect to the total mass of the antiviral aqueous overcoat composition is 0.01 to 5% by mass. The problem is also solved by an article having a dried coating film of the antiviral aqueous overcoat composition on at least a portion of a surface of a coated object.
