Abstract:
An apparatus for automatically reading a booklet includes a conveyer (6) for carrying a booklet-like original thereon and reciprocating in the horizontal direction, page turning mechanisms (11) and (12) for applying suction to a page of the booklet-like original and turning the page, and an image sensor (7) for reading the booklet-like original that is carried on the conveyer (6) and moved, wherein the image sensor (7) reads the booklet-like original from the central stitching in the directions toward both edges of left- and right-hand side pages separately.  As the apparatus for automatically reading a booklet can simultaneously turn the pages of the booklet-like original and read the pages, if a phamplet is mounted on the apparatus, the apparatus is capable of continuously reading the booklet-like original without requiring manual operations, and smoothly reading the booklet-like original without causing displacement of the pages to occur.
