Abstract:
An apparatus for degrading a biodegradable polymer under compost conditions
and thus evaluating the degradability thereof which comprises: a means of supplying
a definite amount of air having a definite composition; a means of controlling
the moisture content of the air; a means of controlling temperature at a definite
level located by the side which is provided with a vertically long container for
degrading a biodegradable polymer under compost conditions having an air inlet
and an outlet at both ends; and a means of quantifying carbon dioxide in the air
discharged from the vertically long container, and in which these means are mutually
connected while preventing air leakage. An apparatus for measuring carbon dioxide
evolution characterized by comprising: a reaction part having an oxygen-containing
gas inlet; an adsorption part which is connected to the reaction part and in which
two or more units each having a container packed with a carrier not adsorbing carbon
dioxide but adsorbing water and ammonia and another container adsorbing carbon
dioxide are connected in series in a switchable manner; a heating part by which
the adsorption part can be heated; a measurement part for measuring the amount
of the gas adsorbed by each member in the adsorption part; and connecting parts
by which the individual parts as described above are mutually connected.
