Abstract:

The remaining capacity of a recording medium when recording is programmed is calculated, and the programmed state and the feasibility of programmed recording are easily grasped by the user. By using a recording/reproducing apparatus of the invention, it is possible to record/reproduce compressed video information of the same DVD standards on/from a built-in hard disk and further on/from a removable DVD and to record/reproduce compressed video information on/from a removable disk. Moreover, it is possible to specify a hard disk and to program recording on the disk. The program table is stored in a memory. The programmed recording time information and the remaining capacity of a disk are calculated and display a list indicating whether or not programmed recording is possible.
