Abstract:
Apparatuses (900) and methods (1300) of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) imaging use a radiation source (910) to stimulate XRF from only a slice (91, 92, 93) of an object (90) by projecting a radiation beam (911, 921) through only the slice (91, 92, 93). An X-ray detector (100) having a plurality of pixels (150, 152) is provided. A collimator (950) having a plurality of parallel collimator plates (951) is positioned between the object (90) and the X-ray detector (100). The radiation beam (911, 921) is not parallel to the collimator plates (951). Neighboring pairs of the collimator plates (951) allow XRF from only respective portions (93b, 93c, 93d) of the slice (93) to reach respective subsets (150a, 150b, 150c, 150d) of the pixels(150, 152). For each of the respective pixel subsets(150a, 150b, 150c, 150d) the X-ray detector (100) sums signals generated in the pixel or pixels (150, 152) of the respective subset (150a, 150b, 150c, 150d). The radiation beam (911, 921) is a fan beam (911) or a pencil beam (921). A pixel pitch (y151) of the X-ray detector (100) is an integer multiple of a plate pitch (y951) of the collimator (950).
