Provided are: an aqueous multi-component polyurethane coating composition containing a first component (A) that contains a hydroxyl-group-containing resin emulsion (a1) and water, and a second component (B) that contains a polyisocyanate compound (b1) and an organic solvent (b2), wherein the Martens hardness of a coating film obtained by applying the coating composition to a tin plate so as to reach a post-drying film thickness of 40 μm and curing for 40 minutes at 60°C is 20 N/mm2 to 60 N/mm2, the Martens hardness of a coating film obtained by applying the coating composition to a tin plate so as to reach a post-drying film thickness of 40 μm and curing for 180 minutes at 60°C is 80 N/mm2 to 130 N/mm2, and the molecular weight between crosslinks of a coating film obtained by curing the coating composition for 180 minutes at 60°C is 800 or less; and a method for applying the aqueous multi-component polyurethane coating composition.
