Abstract:
An arc discharge lamp, particularly an ultra high pressure lamp (10), a glass faceplate (18) for such lamp and a method of controlling transmission during lamp operation, the glass containing cuprous halide microcrystals dispersed therein and being capable of absorbing radiation below a wavelength of about 420 nm, the glass faceplate (18) having a film (22) that reflects ultra-violet radiation, and the method comprising maintaining the faceplate (18) at a low temperature during lamp operation to prevent a phase change in the cuprous halide.
