Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition for improving sexual function, comprising, as an active ingredient, at least one compound selected from a group consisting of arginine derivatives or the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. According to the present invention, the composition for improving sexual function comprising, as an active ingredient, arginine derivatives or the salts thereof, does not act as a substrate for arginase, but promotes the expression of nitric oxide synthase and increases the generation of nitric oxide in vascular endothelial cells, and dose-dependently increases the cGMP content which is related to an erection, thus remarkably exhibiting the effects of improving sexual function. Further, a method for preparing arginine derivatives or the salts thereof according to the present invention involves inducing the binding between the arginine and sugar contained in animal/vegetable food materials, under physicochemical conditions, so as to establish optimum conditions for the production of the derivatives. The method of the present invention can enable the mass-production of arginine derivatives in an inexpensive manner due to the thus-established optimum conditions, thus enabling the development of products containing arginine derivatives and the utilization of the products as foods for improving sexual function.
