Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2001/038134
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The subject of the invention is the arm-rest of a seat in a vehicle containing a compartment for small articles. The cover (1) of this compartment is furnished with at least one pulled-out holder (2) for containers with drinks, for example, glasses or single-use cups. Each holder (2) has a central part (3) and two rotationally placed arms (4), each of which is supported with a spring (5). The arms (4) have roughly the shape of semi-rings. Each central part (3) has on two opposite sides semicircular recesses which in the active position together with the arms (4) form two seats for containers with drinks.

Description:
Arm-rest of a seat in a vehicle The subject of the invention is the arm-rest of a seat in a vehicle, especially in a car.

Some of the known arm-rests take a passive position and a single or multiple active positions.

Apart from the devices which are used to fulfil their main function, i. e. regulation of the active position, arm-rests may also be furnished with various devices increasing the usefulness of an arm-rest. Compartments for small articles are most often used. The covers of such compartments are furnished with hinges and a lock, and quite often their top surface is covered with a fabric.

The aim of the invention is to gain higher usefulness of an arm-rest without increasing its size.

This aim has been achieved through the construction of an arm-rest which contains a compartment for small articles whose cover is furnished with at least one pulled-out holder for drink containers. This holder is made up of a central part which on two opposites sides features semicircular recesses constituting internal parts of two seats of the holder. On the central part there are two arms of the holder attached rotationally. After pulling the holder out of the arm- rest's cover the arms of the holder form the outer parts of both holder seats. The arms near the axis of rotation are mated with elastic elements, which, after pulling the holder out of the cover, move the arms into working position. In such a position the arms together with the central part form complete seats of the holder. The arms have roughly the shape of a semi-ring.

The advantage of the arm-rest furnished with the above-mentioned holder is the fact that the size of the arm-rest has remained unchanged. Moreover, the holder is opened only when needed; when it is not needed, it is invisible. In case of the arm-rest of front seats, it can be furnished with two holders, one of them being accessible to people sitting on the back seats.

The subject of the invention has been closely explained in the example of constructing the device where fig. 1 shows a section of a compartment cover of an arm-rest, fig. 2-section of the cover from fig. l along the A-A line, fig. 3-the holder which is folded, and fig. 4-the holder in the active position.

According to the invention the arm-rest of a seat in a vehicle contains the cover 1 of the compartment for small articles in which there are two holders 2-with the possibility of being pulled out-for containers such as glasses or cans with drinks. Each holder 2 has a central part 3 and two rotationally placed arms 4, each of which is supported with a spring 5. The arms 4 have roughly the shape of semi-rings. Each central part 3 has on two opposites sides semicircular recesses which in the active position together with the arms 4 form two seats for containers with drinks.

The functioning of the holder is as follows.

In the passive position the stationary part 3 and the arms 4 are inside the cover. After pulling out the holder the springs 5 push the arms 4 outside where they form two seats of the holder.

In order to fold the holder it is necessary to apply force to its central part and after overcoming the resistance of the springs 5 the arms 4 will move inside and the holder will be hidden under the cover 1.
