Title:
ARRANGEMENT FOR A SUSPENSION FILE FOR THE FORMING OF AN INDEX FLAP
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1990/002661
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an arrangement for a suspended pocket file (1). This has a part along its upper long edges (6a, 6b) in which the material in the sides of the pocket file is folded double, in order to form a tunnel (4, 5) into which suspension strips (2a, 2b) for the pocket file are capable of being introduced. On at least one of the walls (4a, 4b, 5a, 5b) of the tunnel (4, 5) there is executed at least one perforation (7a, 7b, 7c, 7d) along three sides of a generally rectangular area (8a, 8b, 8c, 8d). This produces an unfolding index tab which is provided with at least one scored line or creasing rule (9) parallel with the aforementioned long side, along which line or rule the tab is so arranged as to be folded double. The invenion is characterized in that the outer free end of the index tab is in the form of a point (10) which, when the tab is folded double, is so arranged for the purpose of fixing the index tab as to be inserted into a slit (11) arranged in the other wall of the tunnel.

Description:
Arrangement for a suspension file for the forming of an index flap.

The present invention relates to an arrangement for a suspended pocket file, which has a part along its upper long edges in which the material in the sides of the pocket file is folded double in such a way as to form a tunnel into which suspension strips for the pocket file are capable of being introduced, whereby on at least one of the walls of the tunnel there is executed at least one perforation along three sides of a generally rectangular area, such as to produce an unfolding index tab which is provided with at least one scored line or creasing rule parallel with the aforementioned long side, along which line or rule the tab is so arranged as to be folded double.

A suspended pocket file of the kind referred to by way of introduction is previously disclosed in FR A 2.523.513. Fixing of the tab is achieved in this case in that the side edges of the tab are provided with two projections facing away from one another and so arranged, with the tab folded double along the scored line or creasing rule, as to be inserted beneath the corresponding edges of the perforation. Although this means of fixing the index tab is in itself serviceable, the introduction of the projections beneath the edges of the perforation can sometimes prove difficult and time-consuming to effect. The projections can also become bent after a certain period of use, making their introduction even more difficult.

The' object of the present invention is to make available a suspended pocket file which does not suffer from the aforementioned disadvantages associated with the previously disclosed pocket file, which is achieved in accordance with the invention by the outer free end of the index tab being in the form of a point which, when the tab is folded double, is so arranged for the purpose of fixing the index

tab as to be inserted into a slit arranged in the other wall of the tunnel. The point is preferably arranged symmetrically" on the tab.

The perforation is executed for aesthetic reasons preferably on the inside of the suspended pocket file and preferably with a sparse perforating line, i.e. the perforation is interrupted by sparsely arranged burls in order to prevent the tab from being folded out unintentionally.

The invention is described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. l shows a perspective view of a suspended pocket file with an index tab in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a part view of the pocket file in accordance with Fig. 1 and shows a preferred embodiment of the pocket file from the inside with a number of alternatively usable index tabs.

In Fig. 1 the designation l is used generally in respect of a suspended pocket file preferably made of cardboard. The pocket file is provided in a conventional fashion with suspension strips 2a, 2b, by means of which it is capable of being suspended on guide rails 3a, 3b. The suspension strips 2a, 2b are introduced into tunnels 4, 5 along the upper long sides 6a, 6b of the pocket file. The tunnels 4, 5 are formed by the material in the sides of the pocket file 1 being folded double in a part running along the aforementioned long sides 6a, 6b. The designations 4a, 5a and 4b, 5b are used below in respect of the outer and inner walls of the tunnels, although the wall 5a is not clearly visible in the drawing. Executed on at least one of the walls 4a, 5a and 4b, 5b of the tunnels 4, 5, for aesthetic reasons preferably the walls 4b and 5b, is a series of mutually identical

perforations 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d ..., these perforations being four in number in the example shown in the drawing. Each such perforation is executed along three sides of a generally rectangular area, such as to produce an unfolding index tab 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d. The tab 8c is shown broken off in Fig. 2, for which reason the designation 7c is not marked.

Every index tab 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d is provided here with a so- called scored line or creasing rule 9 running parallel with the long side 6a/ along which line or rule the tab is so arranged as to be folded double. In the area of the scored line 9, which is executed simultaneously with the perforation, the cardboard material is cut only to about half its thickness.

In accordance with the invention each tab 8a-8d is provided with a preferably symmetrically arranged point 10, and in the other tunnel walls, preferably the walls 4a and 4 t there is arranged a slit 11 into which the point 10 can be introduced when the tab is folded double along the scored line 9.

In order to retain the tab in position before it is used, the perforation, is executed in the form of a sparse perforation line, i.e. the perforation is interrupted by sparsely arranged burls 12, of which only a small number are. marked in Fig. 2.

By causing at least the inner walls of the tunnel to be covered by a film of transparent, flexible plastic material glued to the material of the pocket file on the long sides, a tab covered by the transparent film is obtained.

It is obvious that the invention may not be regarded as being restricted to the embodiments described above and

shown in the drawing, and may be modified in many ways within the scope of the idea of invention. This is applicable in particular to the number and to the detailed design of the index tabs and their positioning on the inside or outside of the pocket file. It will also be appreciated that, by positioning the cored line 9 and the slit 11 at appropriate distances from the edge 6, the index tab 8 can be caused to be inclined to facilitate the reading of any text thereon.
