Description:
Arrangements for stairs, in particular a stair nose cover member, and a set comprising the cover member

FIELD OF INVENTION

The present invention pertains to arrangements for covering a staircase, in particular a cover member, such as a panel or a profile for covering at least a portion of a stair of a stair case, more in particular a stair nose cover member.

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION

Staircases are common installations and typically constructed in wood, stone or concrete. Further, staircases are typically custom built for the specific location and may thus be expensive and complicated to replace should there be a need or desire to replace the staircase. Thus, complete replacement of a staircase is typically avoided. Instead, for example, in such cases when it is desired to change the appearance of a staircase, it is common to for example apply paint to the stairs of the staircase.

Wear of the stairs of a staircase may according to known systems be at least to some extent prevented by arranging a fabric, such as a textile carpet, along the staircase. A carpet may also render the properties of a staircase: a concrete staircase may for example become softer. Wear of the stairs of a staircase may reduce the surface roughness of the material and the stairs may thus become slippery and pose a hazard to users.

According to some known systems, adhesive friction imparting strips may be adhered on the stairs or adjacent to the stair nose of the stairs. In other known systems, friction imparting profiles may be arranged on an edge of the stair nose to prevent slipping.

As such, known systems fail to provide a versatile system for protecting and/or adapting the properties of a staircase to desired properties.

SUMMARY It is an object of the present invention to provide a system for covering at least part of a staircase.

It is a further object to provide a system which allows the user to change the appearance and/or properties of a staircase.

It is a yet further object to provide a system which allows a floating floor to merge with a staircase, for example by facilitating that a staircase may be covered with building panels, such as floor panels, having an appearance similar or essentially identical to that of an adjacent floor, such as a floating floor. It is a still further object to provide a system which facilitate that a staircase may be covered with floor panels.

It is a further object to provide a system for covering a staircase which facilitates that an essentially continuous surface is obtained along the extension of the staircase, for example from a floating floor of a ground floor to a floating floor on a first upper floor.

It is a further object to provide a system for covering a staircase which is easy to install.

At least some of these objects have now been achieved by a first aspect where there is provided a stair nose cover member, such as a profile or panel, the cover member comprising a first edge, such as a long edge, comprising a mechanical locking system configured to cooperate with a mechanical locking system of a first edge of an adjacent first panel for horizontal and vertical locking of the cover member to the first panel. The cover member may comprise a second edge comprising a mechanical locking system configured to cooperate with a mechanical locking system of a first edge of an adjacent second panel for horizontal and vertical locking of the cover member to the second panel. The cover member may be configured such that in assembled position of the cover member with the first panel and the second panel, a front surface of the first panel extends in a first plane, such as one of a horizontal or vertical plane, and a front surface of the second panel extends in a second plane being essentially perpendicular, preferably perpendicular the first plane, such as the other of a horizontal or vertical plane.

The arrangement may bring about the technical advantage that building panels, such as floor panels, may be used to cover at least part of the staircase, such as a stair and a stair nose.

The second and/or second panel may be building panels, such as floor panels comprising a mechanical locking system configured for assembling the panels with adjacent similar essentially identical panels to form a floor. In particular, the arrangement may bring about the advantage that a mechanical locking system of the first and second panels may be utilized to provide a floating cover for at least a portion of a staircase and thus provide a visually essentially continuous surface from a first upper stair to a second lower stair of a staircase. Consequently, the arrangement may facilitate that a flush surface is obtained along a staircase. Additionally, the arrangement may facilitate that a continuous flush surface extending from a floating floor and along a staircase.

By utilizing the inherent mechanical locking system of the first and second panels, simple assembling may be facilitated.

By stair nose it is generally meant an outer portion of edge of a stair of a staircase.

In some embodiments the cover member and/or one or more of the first panel and the second panel may be adhered to the stair.

In a second aspect, there is provided a set comprising the cover member, the first panel and preferably the second panel according to any embodiment of the first aspect.

In any embodiment, the set may preferably be configured to be assembled independent the stair nose and independent the stair or staircase. For example, the set may be assembled independently and subsequently arranged on the staircase or a portion of the staircase, such as on the stair nose. Thereby, flexibility and compatibility of the set are facilitated while that the set may be arranged on virtually any type of staircase. Preferred embodiments are set forth in the appended dependent claims, the detailed description and the item section.

It should be appreciated that any of the aspects disclosed herein may equally be applied to cover any building element, such as an edge or corner of a wall or ceiling, a column or a pillar. The first and second panels may thus be wall panels. Accordingly, according to a third aspect, there is provided a cover member, such as a profile or panel, the cover member being configured to cover at least a portion of an edge or a corner, such as a right-angle edge of a stair nose, a wall or a ceiling, the cover member comprising a first edge, such as a long edge, comprising a mechanical locking system configured to cooperate with a mechanical locking system of a first edge of an adjacent first panel for horizontal and vertical locking of the cover member to the first panel. The embodiments of the first aspect are combinable with the third aspect unless stated otherwise. It has been contemplated that one or more of the first edge and the second edge of the cover member comprises the locking tongue and the adjacent first edge of the first panel and/or second panel comprises the tongue groove.

Accordingly, in a fourth aspect, there is provided the cover member such as a profile or panel, the cover member being configured to cover at least a portion of an edge or a corner, such as a right-angle edge of a stair nose, a wall or a ceiling, the cover member comprising a first edge, such as a long edge, comprising a mechanical locking system configured to cooperate with a mechanical locking system of a first edge of an adjacent first panel for horizontal and vertical locking of the cover member to the first panel. One of the first edge of the cover member or the first edge of the first panel comprises a tongue groove configured to open in a direction parallel the first plane in assembled position of the cover member and the first panel, said tongue groove configured to receive a locking tongue of the other of the first edge of the first panel or the first edge of the cover member, for locking of the cover member from being displaced along the second plane, such as along a horizontal plane or along a vertical plane. The said one of the first edge of the cover member or the first edge of the first panel which comprises the tongue groove may comprise a locking element configured to project in a direction perpendicular the first plane in assembled position of the cover member and the first panel. The locking element may be configured to be received in a locking groove of the other of the first edge of the first panel and the first edge of the first panel by means of said folding displacement or linear translation for locking of the cover member and the first panel from parting away from each other in a direction along the first panel. The locking groove preferably being open in a direction along the second plane in the assembled state of the cover member and the first panel, such as open towards the stair nose. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring to FIGS.1A-1 B, there is shown a stair nose 6 cover member according to an embodiment. FIGS 1 A, 1 B shows exemplary ways of installing the cover member. In FIG.1 A, the cover member 10 is configured to cover at least a portion of a stair or stair nose, for example an outermost portion extending vertically. FIG.1 B shows the embodiment of FIG.1 A in an exemplary alternative orientation where the cover member rests on top of the stair 5 of the staircase. A first panel may be arranged on an upper surface of the stair. FIG.1A and FIG.1 B also shows an exemplary embodiment of the second aspect of the disclosure; a set 2 comprising the cover member 10 and the first panel 20, optionally also the second panel 30.

FIG.1 A shows the cover member being configured in assembled position and thus locking state with the first panel 20.

The cover member, the first panel and the second panel may respectively comprise a front surface 15, 15’, 15” and a back surface 16, 16’, 16”. The front surfaces may be a proximal surface intended to be a visible surface. The front surface may comprise a decorative layer, such as a veneer or a print, such as a printed paper or printed powder. The back surface may be a distal surface and may comprise a backing layer.

As derivable i. a. from FIG.1 A, FIG.1 B, FIG.7A and FIG.8, the outer surface of the cover member may be flush with the front surface 15’ of the first panel 20 and flush with the front surface 15” of the second panel 30, thereby providing a visually continuous surface from a first upper stair to a second lower stair, or vice versa.

Referring to FIG.2, A stair nose cover member 10, such as a profile or panel, the cover member comprising a first edge 11 , such as a long edge, comprising a mechanical locking system configured to cooperate with a mechanical locking system of a first edge 21 of an adjacent first panel 20 for horizontal and vertical locking of the cover member 10 to the first panel 20.

A second edge 12, such as an opposite long edge may preferably comprise a mechanical locking system configured to cooperate with a mechanical locking system of a first edge 31 of an adjacent second panel 30 for horizontal and vertical locking of the cover member to the second panel 30.

The cover member may be configured such that in assembled position of the cover member with the first panel and the second panel, a front surface 15’ of the first panel extends in a first plane P1 , such as one of a horizontal H or vertical V plane, and a front surface 15” of the second panel extends in a second plane P2 being essentially perpendicular, preferably perpendicular the first plane P1 , such as the other of a horizontal or vertical plane.

For example, in FIG.1A the front surface 15’ of the first panel in arranged is a horizontal H plane, the first plane P1 being parallel the horizontal H plane. The front surface 15” of the second panel 30 being arranged in a vertical V plane, the second plane P2 being parallel the vertical V plane. Alternatively, as shown in FIG.1 B, the front surface 15’ of the first panel is arranged in a vertical V plane, the first plane P1 being parallel the vertical V plane. The front surface 15” of the second panel 30 being arranged in a horizontal H plane, the second plane P2 being parallel the horizontal H plane.

Thus, a front surface 15 of the cover member may be configured to extend in the second plane P2, in assembled position with one of the second or second panels.

In particular, as shown for example in FIG.2, at least a portion of the front surface 15 of the cover member may configured to extend in the first plane P1 , in assembled position with one of the second or second panels.

As derivable e.g. from FIG. 1A, FIG. 1 B, in any of the embodiments the first 31 edge of the second panel 30 may be essentially identical first edge 21 of the first panel 20. For example, the first 31 edge of the second panel 30 may be identical first edge 21. In particular, the first panel and the second panel may comprise identical mechanical locking systems.

Accordingly, the first edge 11 and/or the second edge 12 of the cover member may comprise a mechanical locking system configured to cooperate with at least one edge of the first panel, such as the first edge 21 and/or the second panel, such as the first edge 31 to thereby lock the cover member horizontally and vertically from parting from the first panel and/or second panel in assembled position therewith.

Referring in particular to FIG.3, FIG.6 and FIG.7B, the cover member 10 may be configured such that the first edge 11 of the cover member is assembled in locking state with the first edge 21 of the first panel 20 by means of a folding F or pivoting displacement of the cover member and first panel 20 relative each other. For example, the embodiment shown in FIG.3 may be configured in assembled position by means of the illustrated folding F displacement, such as a folding displacement about the first edge 11 . However, courtesy of the displaceable tongue 114 of this particular embodiment, the cover member may alternatively be configured in assembled position with the first edge 21 by means of linear displacement in a single direction, as will be further elucidated herein.

Also, in the embodiment of FIG.5, courtesy of the flexible strip 115 of this particular embodiment, the cover member may alternatively be configured in assembled position with the first edge 21 by means of linear displacement T in a single direction, as will be further elucidated herein.

Referring in particular to FIG.3, FIG.6 and FIG.7B, the cover member 10 may configured such that the second edge 12 of the cover member is assembled in locking state with the first edge 31 of the second panel 30 by means of a folding F or pivoting displacement of the cover member and second panel 30 relative each other. However, courtesy of the displaceable tongue 124 of this particular embodiment, the cover member may alternatively be configured in assembled position with the first edge 31 by means of linear displacement T in a single direction, as will be further elucidated herein.
