Abstract:
An array waveguide diffraction grating which can be well aligned with an optical fiber coupled to the array waveguide diffraction grating and having a suppressed temperature dependence of the light transmission center wavelength. The input end (35) of a light input waveguide (2) of the array waveguide diffraction grating is terminated at a first end face (18). The output end (36) of the light output waveguide (6) is terminated at a second end face (19). A first slab waveguide (3) is separated at a separation face (8) crossing the path of the propagated light into separated slab waveguides (3a, 3b). The separation face (8) and the first and second end faces (18, 19) are opposed to one another. A high thermal expansion coefficient member (7) is provided under the separated slab waveguide (3a), and a low thermal expansion coefficient member (40) is provided under the separated slab waveguide (3b). The separated slab waveguide (3a) is slid along the separation face (8) by the thermal contraction of the high thermal expansion coefficient member (7).
