Abstract:
For a variety of reasons, candles are often the preferred means of illumination in certain circumstances; however, candles are inherently unsafe due to the presence of flammable material (e.g. candle wax) and high temperatures (e.g. the flame). It has therefore been desirable to produce artificial candles, which simulate traditional 'real' candles; however, these are often unconvincing. The present artificial candle includes: a candle wax body (21); a wick (23) extending from the candle wax body (21); a translucent artificial flame component (25); a plurality of LEDs (1-7) embedded within the flame component (25); and a micro-controller configured to control illumination of each of the plurality of LEDs (1-7).
