Description:
ASH-TRAY WITH SMOKE FILTER TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to ashtrays.

The invention is particularly related to ashtrays having embodiments which can purify extinguished cigarette's odor or smoke coming out of the burning cigarette before given to the outside environment.

PRIOR ART As a result of researches carried out in the past, negative effects of cigarette to human health, for example increasing the risk of cancer, has become clear today and so many companies working in this field, especially cigarette producers, are developing various tobacco types or tobacco treatment processes or cigarette filters, at least in order to lower this damage to a minimum. As it is noticed, all these studies are directed to smokers.

However, the damage of smoke, coming out from the burning cigarette, given to human health is much more than the smoke inhaled and the worse of it is that not only the smokers are affected with this smoke but also all the people in the smoking environment are affected. One can come across such a situation often at home, work, restaurant, cafe, bar and similar places.

Attempts have been made in order to eliminate these disadvantages. The most known of these studies are the ventilation systems which are being used in places with large volume, for example, great shopping centers, covered stations or sports saloons. By means of these systems, the smoke in the atmosphere is absorbed, filtered and subsequently put out and fresh air is given to the atmosphere in place of the smoke.

However, this system's usage is so limited because it brings so many problems both from the point of maintenance and application cost.

As an alternative to above mentioned embodiment, there are further ashtray embodiments featured with absorbing and filtrating the smoke coming out of the cigarettes. By means of more detailed description, this type of ash-trays are characterized with an upper chamber the cigarette is placed thereon and appeared to be a normal ash-tray, a fan rotating by means of a DC motor in order to suck the smoke coming out of cigarette's tip and embodied under said chamber and under this absorbing

embodiment, there exists a filter arrangement comprising multiple filter layers preferably made of cellulose, cellulose acetates, polyethylene and formed by attaching methyl cellulose to finer fibrous materials in order to filtrate the absorbed smoke. Herein, a battery is used for DC motor and generally there exists an electronic circuit controlling the operation of the motor.

As this type of ash-trays function with the principle of absorbing the smoke of cigarette, they are unwieldy because they have to comprise a motor and a fan attached to said motor and also their production costs are high and they can not be used when motor and electronic circuit is out of order or when energy in battery is finished.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Present invention is related to a novel ashtray having a filtrating feature, which can eliminate all above-mentioned disadvantages.

The main scope of the present invention is to provide an ashtray embodiment, which can reduce the damage of smoke coming out from cigarette to a minimum and can be used practically and is long-lived.

In order to achieve said main scope, the invention is comprising an ash-tray main body, a smoke filter embodied on said body, at least one movable sealing lid embodied on said main body for completely covering cigarette inlet apertures and a driving arrangement for opening said sealing lid.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, said main body's surfaces, except its upper surface, are closed rectangular prism shaped and its upper surface is also completely covered by the said filter for achieving sealing purpose.

In another preferred embodiment of the invention, a filter slot is formed on the upper surface of the said main body so as to change the filter easily when needed. To protect the filter from possible outer factors and from cigarette, the upper and lower parts of the filter slot is formed as a protective metal plate having a plurality of holes thereon allowing air passage.

In another preferred embodiment of the invention, a drawer slot and a drawer embodiment are formed in the lower part of the main body for putting the cigarettes, cigarette ends and/or ashes. In this way, drawer embodiment can easily be taken out by

means of slide ways embodied on the drawer slot when it is filled up and can be put into main body after being cleaned.

In another preferred embodiment of the invention, as an alternative to the embodiment above, a main body embodiment, lower surface thereof is embodied as a lid and other surfaces are completely covered, is used. In this way, the materials deposited in the ashtray are thrown out by opening said lower surface.

In another preferred embodiment of the invention, said cigarette inlet apertures are embodied on the lateral surfaces of the main body and normally each sealing lids covers one aperture.

In another preferred embodiment of the invention, in order to facilitate the placement of cigarette into cigarette slots, there exists at least one cigarette support projection embodied in front of each cigarette slot in a way that it projects outwardly from the lateral surfaces of the main body.

In another preferred embodiment of the invention, said sealing lid comprises a plastic main body and at least one metal projection embodied on the lower part of the body and a cigarette contact surface is formed in a semi-circular form and on the lid's main body in order to provide sealing in without damaging the cigarette when closed. In this way, when the lid is closed, cigarette is got caught between the cigarette inlet aperture formed on the main body and said cigarette contact surface. The surface's outer boundaries are formed substantially wide in a way that it projects outwardly from the ashtray so as not to give damage to cigarette and preferably are coated with foam rubber (sponge).

In another preferred embodiment of the invention, said driving arrangement comprises a magnet for opening said movable sealing lids by pulling when it is at the same level with the sealing lid and an arm in connection with the magnet used to move said magnet.

In this way, when it is desired to set the cigarette into the cigarette inlet apertures on the main body, user brings the magnet at the same level of metal projection located behind the sealing lid by slightly moving the arm, whereby the magnet opens the lid by pulling it and user can easily dispose the cigarette into the aperture. Then, by moving the arm to original position thereof, user takes away the magnet from metal projection's direction and in this way lid is automatically closed by effect of gravity.

In another preferred embodiment of invention, alternatively, said driving arrangement is an electric circuit comprising an electromagnet for opening and closing said movable

sealing lid, a battery, normally opened switch formed on the line between battery and electromagnet and a button in connection with said switch. Said electromagnet is formed on upper surface of main body corresponding to the metal projections of the sealing lid.

In this way, when user wants to put the cigarette in the ashtray, closing the switch by pushing the button enables the electromagnet to be energized and in this way the electromagnet opens sealing lid by pulling it to itself. Similarly, after cigarette is placed, user turns on the switch by pushing the button again for cutting electromagnet's energy and thus, by effect of gravity, sealing lid is closed.

In another preferred embodiment of the invention, said filter comprises a layer consisting of absorbent oily fabric, another layer consisting of coal granules, another layer consisting of soda carbonate, another layer consisting of cotton or polyester and finally another layer consisting of polyethylene mesh for picking remainder particles.

In a preferred embodiment of invention, to determine remaining lifetime of filter a consumption indicator is used. The counter indicates that if filter is bright colored there is no problem in it and if filter is turned to a very dark color, it must be replaced with a new one.

In this invention, basic material of consumption indicator is cellulose. Filtrating efficiency is increased by cellulose.

In a preferred embodiment of invention, said consumption indicator can also be produced from marble instead of cellulose.

In order to understand advantages of present invention clearly together with embodiments and additional parts, following described figures will be necessary and present invention should be evaluated according to these figures.

Lower protection metal plate DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE iNVENTioN In figure 1a, general view of ashtray is shown. As can be understood from the figure, the ash-tray typically comprises; a main body (1), a filter chamber (2) embodied on upper surface (1.1) of the main body, a smoke filter (3) consisting of multiple layers which is placed in the chamber and which will be described hereafter, a small drawer embodiment (4) used for easily evacuating cigarette ends and ash deposited during usage and formed in lower part of main body (1) and a drawer slot (4. 1) in which the drawer

embodiment (4) is located, an upper protection metal plate (5) formed in upper part of filter (3) and having multiple air passages (5.1) used for evacuating filtered smoke in order to protect filter from outer factors, a lower protection metal plate (6) similar to upper protection surface and embodied between filter and main body (1) in order to prevent filter (3) being damaged by burning cigarette located in main body (1). Again in the figure, it can be seen that cigarette inlet apertures (7) are formed on main body lateral surfaces (1.2) and said apertures are completely covered with a movable sealing lid (8) used for preventing cigarette smoke exude out. Moreover, a driving arrangement is embodied on main body upper surface (1.1) to open and close the lid (9). The arrangement consists of a magnet (9) and a magnet driving arm (10) to move said magnet.

From the Figure 1b, the function of said sealing lid (8) can be better understood.

Accordingly, when user wants to put the cigarette into the ash-tray he moves the magnet (9) to the alignment of sealing lid (8) by using the driving arrangement and in this way the sealing lid (8) is opened as a result of the drawing force of the magnet and thus cigarette inlet aperture (7) comprising cigarette slot (11) appears. If desired, the aperture (7) can be embodied bigger or smaller than shown in the figure. Accordingly, in such a case, dimension of sealing lid (8) and features of the magnet (9) pulling the lid to itself would change.

Figure 2a and 2b illustrates how said sealing lid (8) can be opened and closed.

In figure 2a, top view of a preferred embodiment of ashtray is given. In the embodiment there are preferably four cigarette inlet apertures (7) and thus four sealing lids (8), four magnets (9) and four cigarette slots (11). As it can be seen in the figure, there are one piece of metal projections (8.2) on both lower ends of the sealing lid (9) and as partially mentioned above, when magnet (9) on the main body upper surface (1.1) is moved to the vertical line of the projections (8.2), it attracts projections (8.2) and consequently sealing lid (9) to itself. In order to allow achievement of this movement, channels (12) guiding the metal projections (8. 2) are formed on the main body (1), and in this way, metal projections (8.2) move along with said channels (12).

Figure 2b illustrates lateral view of sealing lid (9). According to illustrated example, the sealing lid (9), as indirectly mentioned above, comprises a plastic main body (8.1) and preferably two metal projections (8.2) embodied in lowest part of the body (8.1).

As an alternative to above mentioned driving arrangement, an electromagnet circuit can be used. In this embodiment, an electromagnet is located on the main body upper surface in a way that its position is vertically aligned with that of said metal projections (8.2) of sealing lid (8). The magnet receives energy from a battery and the energy is controlled with a switch operated by the user. In this way, when user wants to place the cigarette he turns off the circuit by pressing a button located on main body and connected with said switch and thus activates electromagnet so that it can pull sealing lid (8) to itself. On the other hand, after placing the cigarette, user turns on the circuit by pressing the button again and inactivates the electromagnet whereby the sealing lid (8) is opened by means of gravity. Furthermore, considering ashtrays with multiple cigarette inlet apertures (7), all electromagnets embodied in these apertures can be switched on and off by a button from a single center.

An additional feature which can be added to above embodiment is a lid which is able to close itself in certain period of time after being opened in order to prevent smoke leaking out and/or providing a more practical use in the case that the sealing lid (8) is left open unintentionally. In this embodiment, an electronic timer circuit (for example a simple RC circuit) starts to count when user turns off the switch and opens the lid and after a predetermined period of time the circuit turns on the switch and closes the sealing lid.

This time can be constant and also can be determined by user by means of a potentiometer used in RC (resistance-condenser) circuit. By means of said electromagnet embodiment, use of ashtray becomes highly practical.

Figure 3a and 3b illustrate the drawer embodiment used in invention and allows ash and cigarette ends to be evacuated in a most practical way.

Figure 3a illustrates a drawer embodiment (4) placed in a drawer slot (4.1) in main body (1). In this embodiment, one main body lateral surface (1.2) the drawer embodiment (4) is formed thereon is left open to allow the drawer embodiment (4) to enter and exit. In a way that the drawer embodiment (4) covers the opening on the lateral surface (1.2) without allowing any smoke leak. In addition, a handle (4.2) is embodied on drawer embodiment (4) to enable it to easily open by pulling. Also in this figure, cigarette support projections (11.1) located in front of each cigarette slot (11) as protruding outwardly from the ashtray can be seen.

In figure 3b, the view of the drawer embodiment being pulled out and opened is given for a better understanding.

In figure 4, an evacuating embodiment is given as an alternative to the drawer embodiment. In this embodiment, instead of using a drawer embodiment, lower surface (1.3) of main body is embodied as a lid in an easier way and all other surfaces are closed and when desired, ash and/or cigarette ends can be evacuated by opening the lid (13).

To prevent the involuntarily opening of evacuation lid (13), a locking arrangement is embodied on lower surface (1.3) of main body.

Although the present invention has been shown and described in terms of a preferred embodiment, it will be appreciated that changes and modifications will be evident to those skilled in the art from knowledge of the teachings of the present invention. Such changes and modifications, which do not depart from the spirit, scope and teachings herein, are deemed to fall within the purview of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
