In this embodiment the second hollow shaft 20 does not comprise flanges. However, in an alternative embodiment, as shown in figure 9, the second adapter member 2 is provided with two flanges 24 that are fixedly connected to the shaft 20. In this embodiment the first adapter member 1 does not comprise flanges.

As shown in figure 4 the adapter members 1, 2 with the protruding parts of the studs 12, 22 engage onto the internal thread of the -attachment openings 37, 38 of the planing head 3, wherein the coupling surfaces 15, 25 of the adapter members 1, 2 contact the first end surface 35 and the second end surface 36, respectively, of the planing head 3 so as to abut. The central axes SI, S2 and S3 in that case are in each other's extension, in order to form the joint rotation central axis S. As shown in figure 3 the adapter members 1, 2 with their joint central axis S have been placed on the bearings 98 of the grinding device 9.

The method for grinding the planing blades 34 of the planing head 3 in the grinding device according to figure 3 is as follows:

In figures 1, 2A-B the situation is shown in which the planing head 3 is accommodated in the planing head holder 81 of the woodworking device 8. The puller 83 is pulled in direction T, as a result of which the planing head 3 is secured in the planing head holder 81. The planing head 3 has rotated and the blades 34 of the planing head 3 have planed material away from the plank 80. In the course of time the blades 34 have become blunt and need to be sharpened. For that purpose the knob 84 is operated in order to relax the puller 83 and remove the planing head 3.

In figure 5 the situation is shown in which the adapter members 1, 2 and the planing head 3 with central axes SI, S2 and S3 are positioned in each other's extension. The first coupling surface 15 and the second coupling surface 25 are situated straight opposite the first end surface 35 and the second end surface 36, respectively.

In figure 4 the situation is shown in which the first stud 12 and the second stud 22 by means of a rotary motion of the first tensioning knob 13 and second tensioning knob .23, respectively, have bee.n screwed in the thread of the first attachment opening 37 and the second attachment opening 38,. respectively. The first coupling surface 15 and the first end surface 35 and the second coupling surface 25 and the second end surface 36, respectively, have contacted each other in an abutting manner, which contacts are maintained by the tension in the studs 12, 22. Said tension is realised by turning the tensioning knobs 13, 23. The assembly of the adapters 1, 2 and the planing head -3 thus forms one play-free and aligned unity. The conical attachment stump 31 is in that case centred and at the foot accommodated fittingly in the centring recess 26. The central axes SI, S2 and S3 jointly form the rotation central axis S. The assembly of the adapter members 1, 2 and the planing head 3 is now ready to be placed in the bearings 91 of the grinding device 91.

In figure 3 the situation is shown in which the assembly of the adapter members 1, 2 and the planing head 3 have been placed in the bearings 91. The flanges 14 of the first shaft 10 confine the bearing 91 on both sides, as a result of which the first adapter member 1 is position-fixed in direction Y. The position of the second adapter member 2 with respect to the bearing 91 depends on the length of the planing head 3. The adapter members 1, 2 therefore are suitable in combination with planing heads 3 of various linear measures .

The planing head 3 is placed near the grinding wheel 96 and is freely rotatable about the joint rotation central axis S. The grinding wheel 96 can be started after which the column 94 is movable in direction Y on the conveyor belt 93. The rotating grinding wheel 96 will in that case move past one of the blades 34. By moving the protective plate 95 in direction X with respect to the column 94, it can be achieved that the grinding wheel 96 touches one of the blades 34 in passing by and thus effects a grinding treatment .

The above description is included to illustrate the operation of preferred embodiments of the invention and not to limit the scope of the invention. Starting from the above explanation many variations that fall within the spirit and scope of the present invention will be evident to an expert.
