Abstract:
An athletic shoe (10) offers an adjustable support for the wearer's ankle, a means for quickly putting on and removing the shoe, and protection to the wearer's forefoot from impacts. The shoe construction includes a resilient sole portion (14), an ankle surrounding section (20), an instep enclosing section (24), and a toe section (28). The ankle surrounding section (20) begins at the after end (22) of the sole portion (14) and extends forward to define an opening for a wearer's foot. The toe section (28) extends backward from the forward end of the sole portion. The instep enclosing section (24) is adapted to swing from a first open position (74), to a second closed position (78) around the wearer's foot, where its second edge (70) abuts the outer edge (30) of the sole portion (14) to which it is detachably secured using tapered pins (94) or ridged tabs and matching receptacles.
