Abstract:
In a brake device of the type wherein a rotary member such as a brake disk (1), a brake drum, or the like, is clamped from both sides by a pair of main and follower brake linings (2), (3) to apply brake, the present invention provides an automatic gap adjusting brake having the following construction. One of the ends of a detection rod (32) is fitted to an armature (9) of a magnet (7) which drives the main brake lining of the brake device, and a detection metal (34) is fitted to the other end of the detection rod (32). The brake device includes further a switch (45) for detecting the movement of a lever (38) fitted rotatably to a fitting base (33) to which the follower brake lining (2) is fitted, too, when a step portion (34a) of the detection metal (34) meshes with a step portion (37a) of a detection piece (37) fitted to the tip of the lever (38) because the magnet stroke becomes large due to the wear of the brake linings, or the like. Means is also provided for bringing the follower brake lining (2) close to the main brake lining (3) by a predetermined stroke by the operation of the switch (45) described above in order to optimize the brake operation.
