Abstract:
This automatic tool exchanger having a tool breakage detection function for reducing erroneous detection when detecting tool breakage, has: a tool indexing device that moves, along an elliptical course, a plurality of tools held upright by a holding member, and stops a prescribed tool at an indexing position on the course; an exchanged tool displacement device that moves the tool located at the indexing position to an exchanging position with a partner device; a tool breakage detection device provided with a projector and a photodetector of which the optical axis is aligned with the tip of the tool passing through a detection position for the tools moved on the course in the tool indexing device; and a control device that controls driving of the tool indexing device and the exchanged tool displacement device, and that executes, when determination based on the detection result of the tool breakage detection device is negative, retry detection for temporarily reversing the movement of the tools, reducing the movement speed, and passing the tools through the detection position again.
