The present application relates to the field of communications, and provides an automatic vehicle window cleaning method and apparatus, used for detecting debris on a vehicle window according to the values of the pixels in a vehicle window image, and controlling a cleaning tool to perform automatic cleaning, reducing manual operations. The method comprises: obtaining a vehicle window image; determining a dark channel image corresponding to a single vehicle window image frame; according to the number of pixels, in the dark channel image, the gray value of which exceeds a preset gray threshold and/or the sharpness of the dark channel image, determining that there is a first type of debris on a vehicle window, and/or according to the RGB values of the pixels in continuous I vehicle window image frames, determining that there is a second type of debris on the vehicle window; and controlling a cleaning tool to remove the debris, the debris comprising the first type of debris and/or the second type of debris.
