Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a thin backlight unit with good thinness and luminance uniformity, and a liquid crystal display device that uses this backlight unit. The present invention solves this problem by having a reflection element, a luminance uniformizing element, and a light source that is positioned between the reflection element and the luminance uniformizing element, wherein the luminance uniformizing element includes at least a Bragg reflection layer and reflects a portion of light emitted by the light source, the reflectance changes within a reflection surface, and the change in reflectance within the reflection surface is in accordance with the position of the light source.
