In ballast water treatment devices in which the ballast water is electrolyzed to eradicate microorganisms, it is necessary to safely process the hydrogen gas that is generated. A ballast water treatment device comprising an electrolysis tank that has a ballast water inflow port, a ballast water outflow port and a hydrogen discharge pipe and inside which electrodes are disposed, a voltage source for applying DC voltage to the electrodes, an internal pressure container for holding the electrolysis tank and the voltage source, a blower for delivering air to the internal pressure container, and a discharge pipe connected to the internal pressure container, wherein the hydrogen discharge pipe is in communication with the discharge pipe above the internal pressure container. For said device, there is no danger of ignition or explosion even if the voltage source and the electrolysis tank are disposed close to each other and it is possible to dilute the hydrogen gas to the lower flammable limit concentration or less.
