Description:
BAND FOR PROTECTING BABY'S CLOTHING AND PREVENTING SPILLAGE AND SLIPPING WHILE WASHING THE BABY

Description TECHNICAL FIELD

The present invention refers to a water-resistant fabric rough or high friction coefficient fabric band that is designed to protect the upper-body clothing of infants and toddlers when washing their lower body under a sink faucet or a hand-held shower head, and also for older people.

BACKGROUND ART

Infants, birth to 12 months old, and toddlers, 12 to 24 months old, hereinafter referred to as "baby" or "babies", often defecate in their diaper and it is quite customary in such cases that the caregiving adult removes the baby's lower- body clothing, pants, and diaper and, with the baby's upper-body clothing, shirt, still on, washes the baby under the sink faucet or with a hand-held shower head. In such cases, the caregiver holds the baby in one hand and washes the baby using his or her other hand, all the while trying to refrain from wetting or soiling the baby's upper-body clothing. Nevertheless, the upper-body clothing occasionally does get wet or soiled, and the need to constantly try to prevent this from happening detracts from the caregiver's ability to pay full attention to the cleaning task to the extent that there is even a risk of the baby slipping from the caregiver's grasp. The band, subject of the present invention, offers a good and efficient solution to the aforementioned problem.

The main objective of the present invention is to provide a band made of a water-resistant, slip-proof fabric with a high friction coefficient, with fastening means at both ends, which can be wrapped around the baby's upper body, from the waistline up to the top of the chest. ' The band is then fastened using the fastening means located at the ends of the band and the bottom part of the baby's body can then be washed under the sink faucet or using a hand-held shower head without worrying that the baby's upper-body clothing will get wet or soiled in the process. The fact that the band is made from a. slip-proof fabric with a high friction coefficient also ensures that the baby will not slip from the grip of the adult that is washing the baby.

It is emphasized that the band is made of a water-resistant slip-proof fabric with a high friction coefficient that ensures the adult holding and washing the baby has a firm grip on the band, and thus on the baby, so that the risk of the baby slipping from the grip of the adult is minimized.

The band is then fastened using the fastening means located at the ends of the band and the bottom part of the baby's body can then be washed under the sink faucet or using a hand-held shower head without worrying that the baby's upper-body clothing will get wet or soiled in the process. The fact that the band is made from a slip-proof fabric with a high friction coefficient also ensures that the baby will not slip from the grip of the adult that is washing the baby.

The band (1 ), subject of the present invention, is made from a water-resistant slip-proof fabric with a high friction coefficient, such that when it is wet, the water is not absorbed but rather rolls off due to gravity and there is no risk of the baby slipping from the grip of the adult washing the baby due to the friction between the fabric and adult's hand. The two ends (1 1 ) (12) of the band are covered with corresponding pieces (21) (22) of a fastening means, which may be of a variety of kinds, such as button and loop (211) (221), snaps (212) (222), zipper (213) (223), and so on, although the inventor believes that, pieces of a hook-and-loop type fastener (214) (224) (e.g. Velcro©) are the most appropriate fastening means for the band (1 ), subject of the invention.

The friction mentioned above exists between the band (1) and the skin of the hand of the adult that holds the baby. This high friction is aimed to prevent the risk of the baby slipping from the grip of the adult washing the baby. The band (1) can be made of Polyurethane, Polyethylene and such materials with high friction coefficient. The band ( 1 ) can come in a variety of sizes, although the inventor believes that the band designed for use with toddlers should be 16 cm. wide and 63 cm. long. Such dimensions are suitable for toddlers and enable to wrap the band around the baby's upper body so that the two corresponding pieces of fastening means (21) (22), located on either end of the band, can be joined. Nevertheless, the invention and application refer to other dimensions as well. Drawing No. 1 depicts the band (1).

The band (1) can also come in a version designed for use with babies (0 to 12 months old) whereby an elastic band (3) is attached to the bottom part of the band ( 1 ) such that when the band (1) is wrapped around the baby, the elastic band (3) causes the bottom of the band (1) to fit snuggly around the baby's body, thus preventing it from getting wet or soiled, especially if the baby is active. In addition, it is possible to add an elastic band (3) in the upper part of the band ( 1 ). Also it is possible to add such elastic band (3) in the bottom and the upper part of the band (1).

The dimensions of the band (1) designed for infants aged 0 to 12 months should be: 15 c m. wide, 55 cm. long. In addition, the entire width of one end (1 1) of the band should be covered with a 5 cm. long piece of fastener while the entire width of the other end (12) of the band should be covered with a 12 cm. long piece of fastener. Drawing No. 2 depicts the band (1) whereby it is adapted for use with very small infants.

Use of the band (1) with infants: The band is wrapped around the infant's torso, from the waistline up to the top of the chest and its ends are joined by means of the fastener means. The infant's lower-body clothes and diaper are removed and the infant is washed under the faucet without worrying about wetting or soiling the infant's upper-body clothing, since any water that spatters on the upper part of the baby will wet the band and roll off it. As a result, the infant's upper-body clothing stays dry and clean, and the infant's caregiver can focus on cleaning the infant and holding it safely.

Hand strap: The band (1) may be equipped with a hand strap (4) to prevent slippage and prevent the baby slipping from the adult's grip while being washed. The two ends of the hand strap (4) are attached to the band (1) in such a way that enables the adult to insert the hand holding the baby through the hand strap (4) or even just to hold the hand strap (4). Storage pocket: The band (1) may have a pocket (5) that may be used to store soap or any other required accessory, such that when the strap (1) is used outside the home, or when baby soap is not within reach, the soap stored in the pocket (5) may be used readily.

An apparatus for quick-opening tie: When the band (I) is equipped with corresponding pieces (21) (22) of a hook-and-Ioop type fastener (eg. Velcro©) it is recommended to add an apparatus for quick-opening tie (6), such as a strap, that is attached to one end, preferably the bottom, of the band (1) such that the user may open the band with one hand by pulling on the quick-opening tie (6).

The band (1) described above can be designed so as to be used also with grown-ups, especially with people with disabilities that need help when washing.
