Abstract:
Disclosed is a battery module that has an improved structure so as to be safer when a thermal event occurs inside the battery module. The battery module according to one aspect of the present invention comprises: a cell assembly having one or more battery cells; a module case accommodating the cell assembly in an internal space; and an expansion member positioned inside the module case and configured to expand in volume and fill at least a portion of the empty space inside the module case when supplied with heat.
