Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2003060833
Kind Code:

Abstract:
A receptacle (28A) for recharging batteries (50) of badges (24) in a personnel locating system and indicating the "on-duty" or "off-duty" status of individuals (26) associated with the badges (24) includes a battery charger (34) and a reader (42). When a badge (24) is coupled to the receptacle (28A), the battery charger (34) charges the rechargeable battery (50) of the badge (24) and the reader (42) receives an identification signal from a transmitter (54) in the badge (24). When the receptacle (28A) reads the identification signal, the receptacle(28A) may indicate that the individual (26) monitored by the personnel locating system is off-duty. The receptacle (28A) may be coupled to a monitor (30) to display the "on-duty" or "off-duty" status of personnel. The receptacle (28A) may further include a charge sensor (38) for indicating the charging status of the rechargeable battery (50) of the badge (24), and indicating the inability of the charger (34) to charge the rechargeable battery (50).
