　The present invention provides a biaxially stretched film having minimal heat shrinkage and excellent dimensional stability, and a method for manufacturing the same. By the present invention, an unstretched thermoplastic resin film comprising at least one thermoplastic resin layer is biaxially stretched in a longitudinal direction and a width direction, and a biaxially stretched film is manufactured. This method for manufacturing a biaxially stretched film has a step (I) for preheating a thermoplastic resin film to a temperature in an elastomeric flat region of a storage modulus curve, a step (II) for biaxially stretching the thermoplastic resin film under conditions of a stretch speed of at least 500%/minute while heating the thermoplastic resin film to a temperature in the elastomeric flat region, a step (III) for cooling the thermoplastic resin film after step (II) to a temperature in a glass-rubber transition region or a glass region of the storage modulus curve, and a step (IV) for relaxing the thermoplastic resin film after step (III) at a temperature in the glass-rubber transition region.
