Abstract:
A modified-sulfur-containing binder which can impart excellent ignition resistance, mechanical strength, water-barrier properties, and resistance to sulfur-oxidizing bacteria and is utilizable for sealing general and industrial wastes therewith; and a production process by which a modified-sulfur-containing material can be obtained with the binder with simple control. A process for producing the modified-sulfur-containing binder is provided which comprises: a step in which raw materials for modified sulfur comprising 100 parts by mass of sulfur and 0.1-25 parts by mass of ethylidenenorbornene (ENB) are prepared; a step in which the raw materials are melt-mixed at 120-160°C; and a step in which after the viscosity at 140°C of the molten mixture has reached 0.05-3.0 Pa·s, the molten mixture is cooled to 120°C or lower. The process for producing a modified-sulfur-containing material comprises: a step in which after the binder is prepared, 10-50 mass% the binder is mixed with 50-90 mass% aggregate at a temperature of 120-160°C while keeping the viscosity at 140°C of the binder in the range of 0.05-3.0 Pa·s; and a step in which the mixture is cooled to 120°C or lower.
