Title:
BIPOLAR ELECTROLYTIC CELL, BIPOLAR ELECTROLYTIC VESSEL, AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING HYDROGEN
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2018/139609
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to control increases in electrolyte temperature by increasing energy conversion efficiency in alkali water electrolysis using a bipolar electrolytic cell having a zero-gap structure. This bipolar electrolytic cell for alkali water electrolysis is characterized in that a plurality of elements that include a positive electrode and a negative electrode are stacked sandwiching barrier membranes, the barrier membranes are in contact with the positive electrodes and negative electrodes to form the zero-gap structure, the difference ΔH (|Ha − Hc|) of the heat generation coefficient Ha [K/sec] for the positive electrodes defined by Equation (1) and the heat generation coefficient Hc [K/sec] for the negative electrodes defined by Equation (2) in the zero-gap structure is 12 K/sec or less, and the coefficient of linear expansion of the barrier membrane is 0.5 × 10-5 – 5.0 × 10-5 [1/K)].
