Abstract:
Provided is a bisphenol composition which contains a specific amount of an aromatic alcohol sulfonate, and a simple method for producing the same. Also provided is a polycarbonate resin production method which makes it possible to produce a polycarbonate resin which exhibits excellent color tones, by efficiently causing a melt polymerization reaction to occur by using the bisphenol composition which contains a specific amount of the aromatic alcohol sulfonate. The bisphenol composition contains the aromatic alcohol sulfonate in an amount equal to or greater than 0.1 mass ppb relative to the bisphenol. Also provided is a bisphenol composition production method for producing the bisphenol composition by reacting a ketone or aldehyde with an aromatic alcohol while in the presence of sulfuric acid. The polycarbonate resin production method produces a polycarbonate resin by using the bisphenol composition. In addition, the polycarbonate resin contains a specific amount of the aromatic alcohol sulfonate.
