Abstract:
This block copolymer (A) contains a vinyl alcohol-based polymer block (b), and an ionic polymer block (c) including a vinyl alcohol-based monomer and a monomer unit having an ionic group forming a salt. The ionic group is a carboxylate group, a sulfonate group, or an ammonium group. The number average molecular weight (Mnb) of the polymer block (b) is 15,000-220,000. The contained amount of the vinyl alcohol-based monomer unit with respect to all monomer units in the ionic polymer block (c) is 5-95 mol%. The number average molecular weight (MnA) of the block copolymer (A) is 20,000-440,000. A ratio (Mnb/MnA) of the number average molecular weight (Mnb) with respect to the number average molecular weight (MnA) is 0.1-0.9. Such block copolymer has high absorbability with respect to water, salt water, and the like, and has both gel shape retaining ability and water solubility.
