Abstract:

The present invention introduces a borate-intercalated layered double hydroxides, the process for preparing it and using it as fire retardant. In the present invention, using the intercalated ability of LDHs, Mg-Al-CO₃-LDHs whose anion in the layer is CO₃^2- is reacted with polymeric anion of boric acid, therefore CO₃^2- in the layer is partly or overall replaced with borate, forming intercalated layered double hydroxide whose anion in the layer is borate ion and CO₃^2-. The borate-intercalated layered double hydroxides is a high antismoke fire retardant, moreover, after combining with PE, PVC, EVA, PP and many rubber materials, the layered double hydroxide has excellent antismoke and good fire retarding.
