Abstract:
The present invention provides a flame retardant which exhibits a high flame retarding effect without impairing the original color of resin. Provided is a brominated polyphenylene sulfide which is represented by general formula (1), said brominated polyphenylene sulfide being characterized in that the whiteness degree (W), which is calculated by using the formula W = 100 - {(100 - L)2 + (a2 + b2)}1/2 from the Lab values of the brominated polyphenylene sulfide in a solid state at normal temperature, is not less than 70. (1) (In the formula, R represents a terminal group and is a hydrogen atom or bromine atom, n represents the number of bromine atoms that are bonded to a terminal benzene ring and is a real number of 1 to 5, m represents the number of bromine atoms that are bonded to a benzene ring and is a real number of 1 to 4, and p represents the number of repeats and is a real number of not less than 2.)
