The purpose of this invention is to provide a burner that can prevent a nozzle from being blocked or damaged due to molten metal or slag. Provided is a burner that comprises: a combustion supporting gas supply path (4) that supplies a combustion supporting gas (G1) to a combustion supporting gas outlet (2) provided in the center portion on the distal end side thereof; a fuel supply path (5) that supplies fuel to a fuel outlet (3) provided around the combustion supporting gas outlet (2); and a protective nozzle (6) that projects further forward from a position that encloses the periphery of the fuel outlet (3) than a distal end face (1a) that is provided with the combustion supporting gas outlet (2) and the fuel outlet (3). The combustion supporting gas supply path (4) includes a de Laval nozzle (9), and an expanding diameter nozzle (10) that gradually increases in diameter from the distal end of the de Laval nozzle (9) toward the combustion supporting gas outlet (2), and the protective nozzle (6) has a shape that gradually decreases in diameter from the distal end face (1a) toward the front.
