Abstract:
The present invention improves productivity while maintaining quality and reliability. Production of a camshaft comprises: preparing two cam units each including a cam, a journal, and a shaft coaxially penetrating through the cam and the journal, the shaft being longer than a bore pitch of a reciprocating engine and shorter than three times the bore pitch, one end of the shaft having a coaxial cylindrical hole, the other end of the shaft having a coaxial round bar shape corresponding to the cylindrical hole; cooling the end having the round bar shape of one of the two cam units to a temperature below -180 degrees Celsius; heating the end having the cylindrical hole of the other cam unit to a temperature in a range of 400–500 degrees Celsius; and inserting the end having the round bar shape into the cylindrical hole until the distance between the cams of the two cam units becomes equal to the length corresponding to the bore pitch while the respective cams are in angular positions that are different by an angle corresponding to the explosion interval between adjacent cylinders of the reciprocating engine.
