A capacitor detection apparatus and method, and a motor control device. The detection apparatus comprises: a switch unit which is in a closed state when a motor control device needs to control a motor system to be powered on and started, so that the motor control device is powered on; a detection unit which is used for measuring the voltage at two ends of at least one of more than four capacitor modules when the motor control device controls the motor system to be powered on and started, and recording the voltage as a capacitor voltage; and measuring the current flowing through the more than four capacitor modules and recording the current as a capacitor current; and a control unit which is used for determining, according to at least one of the capacitor voltage and the capacitor current, whether a busbar capacitor unit is abnormal; and sending a protection signal when it is determined that the busbar capacitor unit is abnormal. The switch unit is further switched from the closed state to an off state according to the protection signal. Comprehensive fault detection is performed on an electrolytic capacitor in the power-on stage of the motor system, so that the safety of the motor system is improved.
