The present invention addresses the problem of selectively isolating carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and reducing the carbon dioxide to a carbon-containing compound by utilizing light energy and water. A carbon dioxide reduction device according to the present invention is characterized by comprising: an anode (2) that is a light reaction electrode; a cathode (4) that is electrically connected to the anode (2) and that is dark reaction electrode immersed in an electrolytic solution (6); and a carbon dioxide-isolating unit (10) that isolates carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in order to supply carbon dioxide to the electrolytic solution (6), where protons and electrons are generated at the anode (2) from water by utilizing light energy, the protons and electrons generated at the anode (2) are supplied to the cathode (4), and the protons and electrons generated at the anode (2) react at the cathode (4) with the carbon dioxide isolated by the carbon dioxide-isolating unit (10) to generate a carbon-containing compound.
