Abstract:
For example, the card reader 1 is equipped with: a card insertion detection mechanism 14 which is disposed at the back of an insertion slot 4 and which detects a card 2; a conveyance roller 26 which is disposed further back from the card insertion detection mechanism 14 and which conveys the card 2 along a card conveyance path 7; a rotation detection mechanism for detecting rotation of the conveyance roller 26; and a card detection mechanism 15 which is disposed further back from the conveyance roller 26 and which detects the card 2. When the card detection mechanism 15 is switched from an OFF state to an ON state even though rotation of the conveyance roller 26 is not detected by the rotation detection mechanism after the card insertion detection mechanism 14 is switched from an OFF state to an ON state, a control unit of the card reader 1 transmits to a control unit of a host device an alarm signal indicating that a skimming device has been inserted from the insertion slot 4.
