Abstract:
Provided is a card reader that transports a substantially rectangular card along the shorter direction thereof and processes the card, wherein the card reader allows a user to pinch an end of the card even in cases where the card is forcibly inserted in a state where a transport path for the card is closed by a shutter member for closing the transport path, while ensuring the distance, in the transport direction of the card, between the shutter member and an insertion opening for the card. In this card reader (1), a card insertion part (4) in which an insertion opening (3) for a card (2) is formed comprises: a shutter member (14) that is arranged on the inner side of the insertion opening (3) and that is movable between a closed position that closes a transport path (5) for the card (2) and an open position that opens the transport path (5); and a protruding member (80) that is attached to the shutter member (14) and that protrudes toward the side of the insertion opening (3). A card abutting surface (80c) against which the card (2) abuts is formed on the protruding member (80) on the side of the insertion opening (3). The distance between the insertion opening (3) and the card abutting surface (80c) in the transport direction of the card (2) is shorter than the width of the card (2) in the shorter direction thereof.
