A catalyst for olefin trimerization obtained by mixing (a) a compound of a Group 5 metal and (b) a reducing agent selected among metal hydrides and allylsilane compounds; and a method of olefin trimerization which comprises trimerizing an olefin in the presence of the trimerization catalyst.
