Abstract:
The present invention provides a cathode electrode which makes it possible to reduce the selectivity for hydrogen and improve the selectivity for a carbon dioxide reduction product in a catalytic reaction for producing carbon monoxide, an olefin-type hydrocarbon such as ethylene or an alcohol such as ethanol through a carbon dioxide reduction reaction. Provided is a cathode electrode for use in the electrical reduction of carbon dioxide, the cathode electrode including a first layer comprising cuprous oxide, copper, and at least one another metal element selected from the group consisting of silver, gold, zinc, cadmium and tin and a second layer formed on the first layer and comprising a constituent element comprising at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of copper, silver, gold, zinc, cadmium and tin.
