Title:
CERMET ALLOY AND COMPOSITE MEMBER PRODUCED THEREFROM
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1989/003896
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Cermet alloy having excellent high-temperature abrasion resistance and high-temperature strength, and a composite member comprising the cermet alloy provided in a firmly bound layer form on the outer or inner periphery of an alloy base member. Materials to be used for pressure rolls, dies or punches are desired to have excellent toughness, impact resistance, high-temperature strength and abrasion resistance. However, conventional WC-Co sintered hard alloys have poor high-temperature strength though they have good abrasion resistance, whereas conventional cermet alloys have low toughness and impact strength though they have excellent oxidation resistance. Thus no alloys have satisfied the above-described requirements. Now these requirements are satisfied by constituting the hard phase of cermet alloy by 20 to 50 wt % of at least one of carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides of the groups IVa, Va and VIa elements and at least one of titanium carbide, nitride and carbonitride, and incorporating predetermined amounts of Ni and Cr in said binding phase. A composite member is produced by binding the cermet in a layer form on the surface of an alloy-made base.
