Abstract:
A coated tool comprising a base and a rigid coating film formed thereon. The rigid coating film is a nitride or carbonitride which contains Al and Cr in amounts of 70-90 atm.% and 10-30 atm.%, respectively, with respect to the total amount of the metallic (including semimetallic) elements and contains argon (Ar) in an amount of 0.50 atm.% or less with respect to the total amount of the metallic elements (including semimetals) and the nonmetallic elements. The rigid coating film has cubic and hexagonal crystal structures. The rigid coating film gives an X-ray intensity distribution regarding the α axis of a pole figure for the cubic (111) plane wherein, when the maximum intensity and the minimum intensity in the α-angle range of 10-90° are expressed by IA and IB, respectively, then IB is IA×0.5 or greater. The rigid coating film gives an X-ray intensity distribution regarding the α axis of a pole figure for the hexagonal (110) plane wherein, when the maximum intensity and the minimum intensity in the α-angle range of 10-90° are expressed by Ia and Ib, respectively, then Ib is Ia×0.5 or greater.
