Abstract:
Conventionally, it is necessary to allocate a certain amount of information to an edge portion so as to code a digital image signal, and hence there is a limitation of reduction of the amount of information, degrading the coding efficiency. A coding device divides an image signal including information on pixels of, e.g. frame unit into macroblocks, groups items of information on pixels correlated with each other in each macroblock, and codes pixel information in each group based on level data representing the signal level of the item of information on a representative pixel in each group, position data of all the pixel information in each group, and number-of-pixels data representing the number of items of the pixel information in each group.
