A tool comprising a carpenter's combined level and square (10) includes: (a) a first elongated, straight section (12) having distal (16) and proximate (18) ends and a centerline (14) therebetween, with the proximate end (18) having a flat surface whose upper part forms a 45 degree angle with the section's centerline (14), (b) a first leveling bubble (20) fixed in this first section (12), (c) a second elongated, straight section (28) having distal (32) and proximate (34) ends and a centerline (30) therebetween, with the proximate end (34) having a flat surface whose upper part forms a 135 degree angle with the section's centerline (30), and with the second section proximate end (34) being proximate the first section proximate end 18) , (d) a second leveling bubble (36) fixed in this second section (28), (e) a coupling means having connecting rod the centerline of the rod being perpendicular to both proximate ends and located such that intersects the section centerlines. When in its first position, the centerlines of the sections (12), (28) are aligned with each other so that their outer surface form straight lines. If the second section (28) is rotated through 180 degrees about the tools connecting rod the tool assumes its second position, whereby the centerlines of the sections (12), (28) form a 90 degree angle with one another so that the tool my be used as a square.
