Abstract:

Provided are a communication method and apparatus, wherein same relate to the technical field of communications, and are used for improving the overall communication efficiency of networks. The method comprises: a first mobility management network element in a first network acquiring information of N intermediate session management network elements which can serve a terminal in the first network, and determining a fused intermediate session management network element (which can provide session management in both the first network and a second network) in the N intermediate session management network elements as a first intermediate session management network element corresponding to a first session of the terminal in the first network, thus improving the overall communication efficiency of the network, for example, reducing network address resources to simplify the complexity of network planning and deployment, reducing the number of nodes in the network to reduce the workload of the operation and maintenance of the network, and reducing signalling between the nodes in the network to reduce the traffic load of the network, etc.
