Abstract:
The present application relates to a communication method and apparatus. The method comprises: a network device determines whether a first capability of a terminal device is less than or equal to a second capability of the terminal device, the first capability being the capability of the terminal device working at a first frequency when only supporting a first wireless access technology, and the second capability being the capability of the terminal device corresponding to the first frequency under a first frequency combination; when the first capability is less than or equal to the second capability, the network device sends a first message to the terminal device, wherein the first message is used for instructing the terminal device to measure the second frequency; the first message does not comprise the configuration of a first measurement gap; the first measurement gap is used for measuring the second frequency. For example, when the first capability is less than or equal to the second capability, it indicates that an LTE radio frequency capability of the terminal device does not lose under an EN-DC frequency combination, and therefore, the measurement gap may not be configured for the terminal device, so that the terminal device can not only measure the second frequency but also communicate with the network device at the first frequency, which improves the transmission efficiency.
