Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a composite separation membrane that has a separation layer comprising a sulfonated poly(arylene ether) (SPAE) copolymer on the surface of a porous support membrane and exhibits both good separation characteristics and a high permeability. [Solution] A composite separation membrane comprising a sulfonated poly(arylene ether) copolymer thin film coating the surface of a polyphenylene-ether-containing porous support membrane, said sulfonated poly(arylene ether) copolymer thin film comprising a repeating structure of hydrophobic segments and hydrophilic segments. Said composite separation membrane is characterized in that the chemical shift of the peak top associated with intra-membrane water in an intra-membrane water spectrum obtained by performing proton nuclear magnetic resonance on the water molecules in the membrane at a temperature of −10°C is at least 4.15 ppm but less than 5.00 ppm.
