Description:
A COMPOSITE WELDING MAT

TECHNICAL FIELD

The present invention relates to a composite welding mat which can substantially absorb the magnetic field which occurs around the conductor, welding arc and work piece during application of welding process.

PRIOR ART

During application of the welding process, a magnetic field can occur on all the conductors where the welding current circulates. Said magnetic fields lead to forces (it can also be mentioned as arc blow) which may lead to movement and orientation of the welding arc to the right and to the left.

Arc blow event, accepted as welding fault, can be observed in welding processes of very thick or very thin cross-sectional materials and particularly in welding machines which operate by means of DC current. This magnetic force which occurs due to the effect of the arc and which is difficult to control may affect the welders and the welding performance.

In the known state of the art, there are pluralities of methods for preventing arc blow. Some of these are processes like alterations on the conductors, arrangements in the operation medium and usage of the welding mats.

In welding processes, welding mat is used having different designs and materials for the solution of the arc blow problem. In the related technical field, designs comprising elements like copper, lead and carbon are preferred as the welding mat.

The welding mats, used in the sector, are generally disposable. Advising of disposable products prevents their prices to be low. Moreover, various welding mat designs lead to problems in welding of pipes or parts with complex geometry.

Said negative results and deficiencies cause the welding process to be unsuccessful or the prices to be high. Therefore, it considered to develop a product which is different from the applications known in the art. Thanks to this, the product obtained by means of the present invention provides advantages like economical advantages, long-duration usage and prevention of the arc blow problems which occur in the welding process.

As a result, because of the abovementioned problems, an improvement is required in the related technical field.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a composite welding mat, for eliminating the abovementioned disadvantages and for bringing new advantages to the related technical field.

An object of the present invention is to provide a composite welding mat which can minimize the arc blow event which may occur during welding process application.

An object of the present invention is to provide a composite welding mat which can be used during application of the welding process for pipe or complex geometry work pieces.

An object of the present invention is to provide a composite welding mat which has long usage durations.

In order to realize the abovementioned objects and the objects which are to be deducted from the detailed description below, the present invention relates to a welding mat which prevents arc blow which is the fault of the welding process. The welding mat to be obtained in the present invention is a composite material. Accordingly, said composite material comprises at least one reinforcement component and at least one matrix component with specific weight proportions. Bismuth powders are used as the reinforcement component and glass reinforced polymer material is used as the matrix components.

In a possible embodiment of the present invention, the amount of said bismuth powders is at a value between 10% and 90% by weight.

In a possible embodiment of the present invention, said polymer matrix component is at least one of polyolefin, polyester or orthophthalic gelcoat materials. In a possible embodiment of the present invention, said welding mat has modular structure such that one part thereof is recessed and the other part thereof is protruded and they engage into each other.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES

In Figure 1 , an isometric representative view of the subject matter composite welding mat is given.

In Figure 2, a top representative view of the subject matter composite welding mat is given.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In this detailed description, the subject matter relates to a composite welding mat which can substantially absorb the magnetic field formed around the conductor, welding arc and work piece during application of welding process and is explained with references to examples without forming any restrictive effect only in order to make the subject more understandable.

Said welding mat comprises at least one matrix component which provides the principle characteristics; at least one reinforcement component which provides improvement and development of the characteristics of matrix material. Accordingly, in the present invention, components are selected which provide elimination of the disadvantages for the related technical field and which provide additional advantages.

Glass reinforced polymer (hereinafter, it will be shortly mentioned as CTP) material is used as the matrix component for the composite welding mat. The most important advantage in the selection of CTP material as the matrix component for the composite welding mat is that the fireproof characteristic is good, in other words, it has flame retardant characteristic. Besides, CTP material can be produced with the resistant rigidity in a robust manner. The abrasion resistances are substantially good. Moreover, they do not have electrical conductivity.

Bismuth element is used as the support component for the composite welding mat. As known, bismuth is the most diamagnetic metal (diamagnetic coefficient of bismuth is -16) among all metals and besides, the thermal conductivity of bismuth is lower than most metals except mercury. Bismuth metal has high electrical resistance and has the highest Flail effect when compared with any metal (in other words, when it is placed into a magnetic field, it shows the biggest increase in electrical resistance). Bismuth is stable against oxygen and water; however, it dissolves in concentrated nitric air. When all bismuth salts are put into water, they form non-dissolved compounds. Therefore, it is considered that bismuth will be the best reinforcement component for CTP matrix component.

The innovative characteristic of the present invention is to provide prevention of the arc blow fault by using bismuth reinforced CTP composite material as the welding mat. Besides, another innovative characteristic of the present invention is the modular designs of welding mat providing mounting to each other. Thanks to this, welding process can be realized to the parts, having complex geometry, without arc blow problem.

By means of the bismuth reinforced CTP composite welding mat, a welding mat is provided having long lifetime which can be used continuously. Thanks to this, a welding mat is obtained which is more economic to use in the long-term.

Accordingly, as known in the art, glass reinforced polymeric material is produced by means of hand lay-up method with dimensions 100x500x5 mm for glass fiber composite (CTP) materials and is sliced with dimensions 25x150x5 mm. In the composite material, polyester resin or orthophthalic gelcoat is used as matrix material and Ahlstorm M501 E class glass fiber material is used as the reinforcement material.

Preferably glass fiber felt (450 grams/m 2 ), with value of 450, and polyester resin are used as the reinforcement component.

In order to add bismuth to the obtained CTP samples and in order to be able to produce with the desired designs, open mold systems with heating are used. Accordingly, CTP materials are placed to mold materials and bismuth is added therein in powder form. Said bismuth powder can be added to the CTP sample at a value between 10% and 90% by weight.

In Figure 1 and 2, the design of welding mat in a manner mounted to each other is shown. Since the bismuth reinforced CTP composite material can be suitably shaped, modular production is allowed.

If preferred, a part of the bismuth reinforced CTP welding mat can have housing outlet and another part thereof can have housing inlet. Thanks to this, they can be inserted to each other and mounted. As a result of the tests made, increase is recorded in the gauss meter values which determines diamagnetism of composite material to be obtained as bismuth is added to CTP material and it is described that an approximately linear increase occurs in the magnetic resistance energy values depending on the absorption characteristics of materials.

The protection scope of the present invention is set forth in the annexed claims and cannot be restricted to the illustrative disclosures given above, under the detailed description. It is because a person skilled in the relevant art can obviously produce similar embodiments under the light of the foregoing disclosures, without departing from the main principles of the present invention.
