The present invention relates to a composition containing a plant extract. The composition according to the present invention has a skin whitening effect by reducing the total amount of melanin and tyrosinase activity in melanocytes in the skin, promotes skin regeneration and improves skin elasticity or reduces skin wrinkles by promoting collagen synthesis and inhibiting collagenase activity in fibroblasts in the skin, has an anti-inflammatory effect or a skin-soothing effect by inhibiting NO production, increases a skin moisture content and has a moisturizing effect by promoting hyaluronic acid production in fibroblasts, has an antioxidant effect by eliminating free radicals, and exhibits a wide anti-bacterial effect against various bacteria, and thus can be used as a cosmetic composition, a pharmaceutical composition, an external use skin preparation or a food composition.
